This research aims to conceptualize social trends of the past century, by exploring interrelationships between Southeast Asian performing arts, and the tapestry of local cultures that produced them. By following trade routes and kinship networks, the project examines migrations of ronggeng social dance and music within the Thailand-Malaysia border region and several distinctive localizations of the form that developed there since the 1930s.
